20 Jahre Viva con Agua, eine internationale Community, unzählige Ideen und eine Marke, die mit uns gewachsen ist. Jetzt bekommt diese Bewegung ein neues Gesicht. Mit einem neuen Design, neuen Farben, neuen Formen und einem neuen Claim: All in for Water.

Was bedeutet Wasser wirklich? Diese Frage hat Leonie Bartsch, Co-Host des Podcasts "True Love" und "Mord auf Ex", gemeinsam mit der Welthungerhilfe und Viva con Agua mit nach Kenia genommen. Unter anderem im Kitui County besuchte sie Wasserprojekte und sprach mit Menschen, deren Alltag sich durch den Zugang zu sauberem Wasser grundlegend verändert hat.

This week we are celebrating Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026 – one of the most important days of the year for our global project work. Why? Because for millions of people worldwide, menstruation is still associated with shame, exclusion, a lack of access to hygiene products, and educational inequality. Because periods must not be an obstacle to education, health, or self-determination. And because we can only create a period-friendly world together.

The people in Yumbe, Uganda, urgently need access to clean drinking water. Together, we can change this situation.

Water for 300,000 people! When clean water flows, the lives of numerous communities are transformed. Children can go to school, diseases decrease, and hope grows with every drop. It is precisely this vision that drives our new initiative: the Lighthouse Project in Yumbe, Uganda.

On March 21 at 7:10 PM, stream4WATER went live. 27 hours later, one thing was clear: this was no ordinary livestream, it was a real movement. Over 50 talents took turns at the digital microphone, supported by a fantastic community that didn't just watch, but took action. The result? 1.25 million people reached and over 10,775 euros in donations. A weekend that impressively demonstrates just how much power, joy, and team spirit lie within digital activation!

For Natasha Mugala, attending school once a month was a problem. The 14-year-old is eager to learn, loves going to school, and has big plans for her future. But once a month, she had to stay at home—not because she was sick, but because her school did not have a safe toilet. There was no water and no way to take care of her hygiene with dignity. For many girls worldwide, this is everyday life. For Natasha, too, this was reality for a long time. This is Natasha's story, and it shows why access to water is so much more than just the fulfillment of a basic need.

The time has come: governments, businesses, and activists are sitting at the same table with the same goal: WATER FOR ALL. We were just fortunate enough to experience this energy first-hand! Agnes Fritz and Belinda Abraham represented Viva con Agua de Sankt Pauli e.V. in Dakar, Senegal, at the UN Water High-Level Preparatory Meeting. And one thing is clear: real change only flows when we work together! These were intensive days filled with strategic discussions, political groundwork, and above all: meaningful human connections. Our takeaway from Dakar is clear: water policy has the greatest impact when it is bold, inclusive, and approached as a community project. 696 million people currently lack access to clean drinking water. Most NGOs respond to such figures with dismay and emotional, shocking images. We at Viva con Agua have chosen a different path: we respond with joy. This might sound provocative, but there is a clear conviction behind it. Social media is oversaturated with urgent appeals and moral pressure. The result is often not higher engagement, but numbness. People simply scroll past. We believe that real, sustainable change comes from positive activation and community.

For us at Viva con Agua, one thing is clear: everything starts with water. Without water and sanitation, we cannot achieve sustainable change in global issues such as equality, safety, and menstrual hygiene. When access to a safe water source or a private toilet is lacking, this has very concrete impacts on daily life. Globally, in 7 out of 10 households without running water, women or girls are responsible for fetching water.

Drinking water is—fortunately for people in Europe—part of everyday life. But how we drink water can achieve more than you might think.
