They are deeply anchored in societal systems and a lack of infrastructure. A decisive factor that significantly increases the risks for women and girls and limits their dignity in daily life is the lack of access to clean Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH).

When fetching water dominates everyday life

For millions of women and girls worldwide, fetching water is a daily journey with real hurdles. It means having to travel long distances – often alone, in the dark, or in the early morning hours. The path itself is connected with risks of harassment and assault.

This reality leads to choices that nobody should have to make: time spent fetching water is time missed for education or the community. Education or water – a choice nobody should have to make. This is exactly where ALL IN FOR WATER comes in, because clean water nearby means protection and time for education.

Unsafe toilets and the question of Period Dignity

Similar situations arise where safe and private sanitation facilities are lacking. Shared toilets that are poorly lit, unlocked, or far away become unsafe places. Without a protected space for personal hygiene, women and girls are often forced to delay using the toilet until dark.

Especially during menstruation, the lack of clean, safe and private toilets becomes a situation that further restricts daily life. It limits dignity and participation, and makes access to school and public life more difficult. Period Dignity – meaning the dignified management of menstruation – absolutely requires clean water and safe toilets.

Fighting period stigma with joy and creativity

At Viva con Agua, we make issues visible, loud, and tangible together! Using the universal languages of art, music and sports (our UL4C logic), we initiate honest conversations about menstruation, dignity and access to WASH.

We create inspiring places, platforms and opportunities for community engagement to shift perspectives and set people in motion. We want to create spaces where openness can grow. For creativity is our form of activism. Cultural change only unfolds its full impact with real infrastructure: with clean water, education and Period Dignity truly become effective.
