Viva con Agua was born out of music. From the very first cup donations at concerts and festivals to this day: around a fifth of our annual donations are still generated by festival cups and the people behind them. Art

Art has always been a part of the Viva con Agua movement. Over the course of 13 years, the Millerntor Gallery evolved into an international art festival that connects creativity, activism, and water. With Sounds 4 WATER, art once again becomes visible as a language that moves, inspires, and brings people together.

CULTURE

"We build Communities for Water." For 20 years, Viva con Agua has been bringing together people who want to make a difference together. Whether on St. Pauli, at festivals, in crews, or in international projects: culture is created where people share responsibility, meet each other, and jointly raise their voices for water as a human right.

Dalaga, Yumbe lebt vom Tabakanbau. 880 Menschen, 134 Haushalte, eine Gemeinde, die ihren Alltag um eine einzige Frage herum organisiert: Wann kommen wir ans Wasser? Vor allem die Frauen tragen diese Last – und sie wissen am genauesten, was sich ändern muss. Genau das passiert jetzt. Gemeinsam mit der Welthungerhilfe bringt Viva con Agua Uganda eine Tiefbrunnen-Handpumpe nach Dalaga. Was das bedeutet, rechnet die Gemeinde selbst vor: Zeit für die Felder, Zeit für die Kinder, Erträge, die auch in Trockenperioden halten.

AUS EINEM KANISTER WURDEN

120 LITER WASSER

Früher liefen die 182 Menschen aus Irakia, Yumbe zum weit entfernten Kotzi-Fluss. Was zu Hause ankam, war oft ein einziger 20-Liter-Kanister für den ganzen Haushalt – trinken, kochen, waschen, alles daraus. Im Mai 2024 kam die Handpumpe. Heute stehen jedem Haushalt über 120 Liter täglich zur Verfügung, und die Kinder sitzen wieder regelmäßig im Unterricht. Das Bemerkenswerte ist, was die Gemeinde daraus gemacht hat: Ein gewähltes Wasserkomitee zieht monatliche Beiträge ein und hat inzwischen 574.000 UGX Reparaturrücklage gebildet. Zwei Jahre, kein einziger Ausfall. Irakia gilt in der Region heute als Vorbild.
