Viva con Agua offers you numerous ways to support drinking water projects in Uganda. Discover how you can get involved either privately or as a company and ensure clean water!
What have we achieved: Our "One-WASH" water project in Yumbe and the Karamoja region in northern Uganda has been ongoing since 2021. The measures taken so far include drilling 16 new wells, rehabilitating 107 existing wells, and distributing 728 ceramic water filters to households and institutions. Additionally, 400 women were provided with menstrual hygiene kits.
Why is our work important: The team from Viva con Agua Uganda supports clean drinking water in various projects. One focus is on working in schools in the capital Kampala and neighboring communities. On the other hand, we support water projects in the north of the country, for example in the Yumbe region, which borders South Sudan. Since 2016, thousands of people have fled the civil war in Sudan and South Sudan to Uganda. Many of them have found refuge in Yumbe. In Bidi Bidi, one of the largest refugee settlements in the world, over 200,000 people live.
What's coming up in the future: In Yumbe, we are committed to ensuring long-term and sustainable access to clean drinking water. With a tense security situation in South Sudan and neighboring Sudan, opportunities for refugees to return home are dwindling. At the same time, the Ugandan population in Yumbe is also facing enormous challenges regarding water issues. The construction of wells and other means of water supply supports a healthy life in this region, provides opportunities for agriculture, and much more.
In Kampala, we continue to advocate for access to clean drinking water and education about water in schools. Through engaging workshops, such as Football4WASH, students are inspired to handle water sustainably and responsibly. Water supply in schools also demonstrably reduces dropout rates – especially among girls. In this way, we strengthen health and education for the long-term prospects of young people.
