More than just a run

A symbol of solidarity and responsibility

With the WATER WALK, we are bringing our history back to the streets. We are celebrating 20 years of Viva con Agua and two decades of commitment to clean drinking water. The very first water march in 2008 already inspired countless people to get active themselves. Today, we are building on this milestone. We walk through cities and villages, connecting people and making visible what becomes possible when many move together. The WATER WALK is not just an anniversary. It is an open invitation to help shape the future, show where we stand, and be part of a future where access to clean drinking water is a matter of course.

Music

Music

Viva con Agua was born out of music. From the very first cup donations at concerts and festivals to this day: around a fifth of our annual donations are still generated by festival cups and the people behind them. Sounds 4 WATER brings this energy back to the stage and celebrates 20 years of music as a uniting force for water.

Art

Art has always been a part of the Viva con Agua movement. Over the course of 13 years, the Millerntor Gallery evolved into an international art festival that connects creativity, activism, and water. With Sounds 4 WATER, art once again becomes visible as a language that moves, inspires, and brings people together.

CULTURE

"We build Communities for Water." For 20 years, Viva con Agua has been bringing together people who want to make a difference together. Whether on St. Pauli, at festivals, in crews, or in international projects: culture is created where people share responsibility, meet each other, and jointly raise their voices for water as a human right.

Everything you need to know about the WATER WALK 2026

What is the WATER WALK?

The WATER WALK is an open, community hiking event for a good cause. From September 13 – 27, 2026, we will walk a total distance of approximately 350 km together – from Kassel to Hamburg. In doing so, we are taking a stand for clean drinking water worldwide. At each stage destination, further activities for Viva con Agua will also take place.

Do I have to run the entire distance?

Does participation cost anything?

How fit do I need to be?

Can I join spontaneously?

What happens in case of bad weather?

What is a typical hiking day expected to look like?

Can children and adolescents participate?

Can we participate as a team (e.g., school class or company)?

How does the charity run work?

Is there organized accommodation?

What do I need to organize myself?

Will my luggage be transported?

Is the hike guided?

Is there a dedicated on-site contact person?

What should I bring?

Who takes responsibility during the WATER WALK?
