In the first blog post, we introduced Finn Kasting and his idea: to run right across New Zealand – from the south to the north. Around 2,000 kilometers. A marathon every day. Back then, Finn was still at the beginning of his journey. Today, he is right in the middle of it. Finn has started. And with every step, he carries our shared vision forward: Water for all – all for water.
A marathon every day – for more than just oneself
Lace up your shoes, start running, keep going.
Since the start, Finn has been running a marathon distance every day through the beautiful landscape of New Zealand. However, his run is more than just a sporting challenge: he is collecting donations for Viva con Agua and raising awareness for something that is essential to him – and to us: water.
No running without water. No recovery. No energy. At the same time, access to clean drinking water is not a given for millions of people worldwide. This is exactly where Finn's commitment comes in. The connection to Viva con Agua was therefore quickly clear to him: using the universal language of sports to draw attention to the human right to water – and to make a concrete difference.
An honest update from the route
As is so often the case, not everything went according to plan for Finn. Already on the second day, a blockage in his calf made a break necessary – instead of a marathon, it was only six kilometres. After a rest day, he continued. Fortunately, his legs are cooperating again. Since then, Finn has been running around 42 kilometres day after day. Almost 500 kilometres are already behind him, and he is currently on his way towards Lake Tekapo. In addition to the physical strain, one thing in particular gives him strength: nature – and the encounters along the way.

“The last marathon towards Queenstown and the arrival there were a real highlight. And definitely the view from Roys Peak – exhausting, but an absolute goosebumps moment.”
At the same time, daily challenges are part of the journey:
“Especially the last five kilometres are always a struggle: tired legs, small aches and pains that are there in the evening and gone again in the morning.”
He is supported by fixed routines, the data from his watch – and unexpected encounters. For example, in a car park somewhere in the middle of nowhere, where he coincidentally meets the neighbours of a friend he met in Australia a year ago. Moments like these show: this journey is full of connection.
When commitment unfolds impact
Finn's run makes visible what is possible when people take responsibility – without a big budget, but with full commitment. For us at Viva con Agua, his story is a prime example of how voluntary commitment can unfold impact: Not through glossy campaigns, but through real stories. Through people who start walking. And through supporters who make such initiatives possible: you are all Viva con Agua.

Every kilometre counts
With his run, Finn is raising donations for Viva con Agua's water projects. He can't do this alone – for this, he needs you. Every contribution counts. Every kilometre makes a difference. Finn regularly shares his journey on Instagram: @finn.kasting. Follow him on his journey, support his run with your donation and thus make water for all possible. We will stay tuned – and run along in spirit. 💧
