Rock Catchment in Tanzania
When rocks become sources of life. Something special is currently being created in the Babati District. Huge rock formations are becoming natural water reservoirs that capture rainwater and direct it to the surrounding communities. A nature-based solution that enables cleaner drinking water for hundreds of families. This project demonstrates how much is possible when humans and nature work together.
Our milestones
✔️ Over 12,000 square meters of rock surface as a water provider: A hill near the communities serves as a gigantic rain gutter and collects water for the local people.
✔️ Supply for around 450 households, two schools, and a health facility: The new system will secure access to clean drinking water for entire communities.
✔️ Success basis in the Mbulu District: More than 350 households and two health facilities are already benefiting from new water installations. Schools have been equipped with slow sand filters.
✔️ Improved sanitation and hygiene in schools: Seven schools received modern sanitation facilities and handwashing stations. Three more are currently being built.
Rock Catchment relies on a simple, effective idea: Large rocks collect rainwater, which is delivered directly to communities through a piping system. No complicated technology, no expensive infrastructure, but the power of nature. In addition, there are investments in sanitation, hygiene, and education. Football4wash combines sport and knowledge. Young people learn in a playful way how important clean water and good hygiene are. Local craftsmen and craftswomen are trained so that facilities can be maintained in the long term. This strengthens the region and creates real independence.
